atkins high protein diet
If, like me, you suffer from hypothyroidism and have gained weight as a result it's important to know which foods to avoid in your diet to help you drop that weight and keep you feeling energized.
The foods I have limited on my hypothyroid diet where those low in natural goitrogens which can enlarge the thyroid gland. This has helped me lose a ton of weight!
These foods are:
Cabbage Broccoli Brussels Sprouts Cauliflower Peanuts Peaches Sweet Potatoes Spinach
Limiting these foods in my hypothyroid diet helped me to lose weight but also combat my symptoms which were:
Constantly feeling tired Mood swings Muscle aches Feeling depressed and anxious Dry skin Thinning hair
Combining this with a calorie controlled diet and foods high in tyrosine has massively reduced my symptoms and helped me shift the weight.
The draw back here is that you need a complex hypothyroid diet plan to keep these foods limited and control your portions and calories to strip that fat off you.
The only diet plan I found comprehensive enough to help me feel great and lose weight was the Strip That Fat diet plan.
This is great for a hypothyroid diet as you load your (quite complicated) food preferences into the diet generator and this will draw up a 2 week eating plan. Simple!
The diet generator can produce over 40,000 different 2 week meal plans which has helped me to keep the weight off in the log term.
Always try to keep your fibre intake high as this will help you lose weight and stop constipation which is often a side effect of an underactive thyroid.
In conclusion I would say there are many factors to consider when trying to find the right balance on a hypothyroid diet. Listen to you body and try to understand how it is reacting as you change what you eat.
Do not under any circumstances try any fad diet as you need to chose the foods that will keep you feeling good and motivated as well as helping you to shift the weight.
